Disaster Preparedness – What You Can Do

No one wants to think something bad is going to happen to them. It is human nature to think things are going to continue to be the same as they currently are.

Unfortunately, bad things happen. Natural disasters occur all over the world every single day. You know this. Planning for it can make all the difference in the world if something happens to YOU.

Disasters, by their very nature, are unpredictable.

If you set aside a small amount of time you can create a plan and you can reduce your risk of being a victim in a disaster.

Start With a Plan

A clear, concise plan of action is the first step. Discuss your plan with your family, friends and neighbors. In fact, talk to your neighbors about how you can work together during an emergency. Find out if anyone has specialized equipment like a generator or expertise such as medical knowledge that might help in a a disaster situation. Make a plan so that you know who will check on elderly or disabled neighbors. Make back-up plans for children in case you can't get home in an emergency. Also include plans for your pets.
