My name is Debra, I want to tell you a little bit about myself and why I have created this web site.
I live in Nashville, Tennessee with my husband, Ron and together we have 4 children and 10 grandchildren that live throughout the United States. Ron and I truly enjoy living in Tennessee; it’s a beautiful state, the seasons are mild and the people are friendly.
My goal for this web site is to provide you with everything you need to help educate yourself on the different types of disasters and how to prepare for them, as well as steps you can take to begin the disaster recovery process should the need arise.
When I was younger, I had opted not to go to college and honestly, always regretted it. So when my children were grown I decided it was time - I have spent the last 11 years working on my BA in Organizational Leadership and MA of Science in Management with a concentration in Nonprofit Leadership.
Yes, it took 11 years! I worked full time while attending school in the evenings, and was very determined to fulfill my dreams. Originally, my desire was to grow my knowledge and skill-set in order to work for an international nonprofit humanitarian relief agency, but along the way my focus has turned from relief work to preparedness education.
One of the things I have discovered over the years as I was conducting research for my studies, was there were few web sites that incorporate disaster education with disaster preparedness.
With this knowledge, some encouragement from my family and friends and help from Tom Lawson and the SBI web site design tools, I decided to create a web site that contained both disaster education as well as access to disaster preparedness information and supplies.
Before I go any further, I want you to know that while I am passionate about disaster preparedness I am NOT a hard core or paranoid “prepper”, nor I am someone who runs around crying “the sky is falling, the sky is falling!”; I am however, an encourager.
As an encourager, with this web site I want to encourage others to be prepared for disasters, educate them about their susceptibility to some form of disaster, either natural or man-made and give them the tools they need to not only survive a disaster but to help them begin the recovery process.
I also want to use this site to provide a platform where you too can encourage others by sharing your experiences and disaster survival tips. You will find sections throughout this website along with the community blog where you can submit your story, offer tips and upload your photos to share with others.
Thank you very much for visiting my site and please come back again, as it is a work in progress and new information is being added regularly.
If there is anything I have missed, or you would like to see in addition to what I have provided, please feel free to email me with your suggestions.
Warmest Regards
